The Enigma of John Ganz
There Is No Enigma — He's a Fascist
By Alexander Muse ·
John Ganz is fixated on fascist culture. He sees the world through a fascist lens and as a result, everyone he disagrees with is a fascist. His latest substack article titled The Enigma of Peter Thiel, unsurprisingly, accuses the billionaire of being a fascist. While Thiel may have an unhealthy obsession with J. R. R. Tolkien's work he is politically the least fascist person I know and far less of a fascist than his accuser - John Ganz.
Peter was the first person who put his money where his mouth was giving Mark Zuckerberg the capital to start Facebook. He has fought for LGBTQ rights including promoting the Intimate Privacy Protection Act. He opposes the fascist Patriot Act. He has advocated for open trade and better relations with communist Cuba. He has advocated ending endless wars in the Middle East and reducing military spending. He is a supporter of the Committee to Protect Journalists and the Human Rights Foundation.
If you want to learn more about him you ought to read his 1995 book titled The Diversity Myth: Multiculturalism and Political Intolerance on Campus - it provides a very early look into his mind - mistakes and all. For a more recent peek into his mind, you should read Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future - an optimistic book about our future. Or read his chapter in Timothy Ferriss’ Tools Of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers.
There were real fascists and nazis in this world. They committed horrible atrocities that we should never forget. When we use their names to malign our political enemies we minimize their crimes and disrespect their victims. Peter Thiel is neither a fascist nor a nazi. At the end of the day, I don’t think John Ganz is a fascist - he is just a misguided soul in search of a simple enemy to fight. Here is John’s latest article that caused me to write this Fast Take:
