ChatGPT can save you valuable time in your day-to-day life and in your career.
By Alexander Muse ·
In today's fast-paced world, time is one of the most valuable resources we have. With so much to do and so little time, finding ways to save time is essential to our productivity and overall well-being. Fortunately, we live in an age where technology can help us optimize our time and make our lives easier. One such technology is ChatGPT, a language model developed by OpenAI that can assist us with a wide range of tasks. In this post, we will explore some examples of ChatGPT prompts that you can use to save time at home and at work. Whether you're looking to automate repetitive tasks or streamline your workflow, ChatGPT has got you covered. These prompts were inspired by Rowan Cheung who is spending a lot of time talking about Ai on Twitter these days.
SIMPLE EXPLANATIONS OF ANY TOPIC
PROMPT: Provide a beginner-friendly explanation of [topic]. Imagine you're explaining it to someone who has no prior knowledge or experience with this topic.
Here is an example of using this prompt to explain ‘string theory’:
String theory is a theoretical framework in physics that tries to describe the fundamental nature of matter and energy. It proposes that everything in the universe, including particles that make up matter, are not actually tiny, point-like objects, but rather are made up of tiny, one-dimensional "strings" that vibrate at different frequencies.
In essence, string theory suggests that the building blocks of our universe are incredibly tiny and complex structures that are not visible to the naked eye. By studying these strings and their vibrations, physicists hope to unlock the secrets of the universe, including how gravity works, and how the universe was formed.
While string theory is still a topic of debate and research in the scientific community, it has the potential to revolutionize our understanding of the universe and the laws that govern it.

This momentous decree cam as a greet becoun light of hope to millions of Negro slaves, who hadde been y-seared in the flames of withering injustice. It cam as a joyous daybrek to end the long night of their captivity.
EXPERT ADVICE
PROMPT: Please examine and criticize the writing style of this paragraph as if you were [insert person’s name].
Here is what this prompt would generate if you asked it to have Pāṇini examine Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address:
As a grammarian, I find the writing style of this paragraph to be both eloquent and sophisticated. The author's use of parallelism in the repetition of "we can not" is particularly noteworthy. The language is appropriately formal and elevated, but at times it appears to strain under the weight of its own grandeur. The author could have used simpler language to convey the same message, and at times, the meaning is obscured by the ornate style. Additionally, the syntax can be convoluted and difficult to follow, which detracts from the overall clarity of the message. Despite these criticisms, I must acknowledge that the author has crafted a powerful and moving piece of rhetoric that continues to resonate with readers today.
MEMORY ASSISTANCE
PROMPT: Tell me what movie I am thinking about [insert everything you can remember about the movie]:
Here is an example of what ChatGPT would tell you if you asked “Tell me what movie I am thinking about: it was set in Italy and it was a coming-of-age story about a boy and a movie projectionist.”
The movie you may be thinking of is "Cinema Paradiso" directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. The film is set in Sicily, Italy, and follows the story of a young boy named Salvatore and his relationship with Alfredo, the projectionist at the local cinema. The film explores themes of love, loss, friendship, and the magic of cinema.
For the record, that was the movie I was thinking of.
MIMIC YOUR WRITING STYLE
PROMPT: Please take note of the style, voice, and tone of my writing in this text: [insert text]. Cut and paste ChatGPT’s response and ask it to rewrite any paragraph in that manner.
Here is an example of what happened when I trained ChatGPT on Earnest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea and then asked him to rewrite Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address in that style, voice, and tone:
Four score and seven years ago, our forefathers brought forth on this continent a novel nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the belief that all men are created equal.
Now, we find ourselves in the midst of a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation formed under such principles can endure. We have gathered on a vast battlefield where our fallen comrades have given their lives to uphold our nation's ideals, and it is fitting and proper that we should commemorate their sacrifice.
However, in a grander sense, we cannot sanctify or consecrate this hallowed ground. The brave souls, both living and dead, who have struggled here have already sanctified it, far beyond our limited power to enhance or detract. While the world may not remember what we say here, it will never forget what they did here. As those who remain, it is our responsibility to remain steadfast in our dedication to the noble cause for which they fought, so that they will not have given their lives in vain. We must renew our devotion to the principles for which they so willingly made the ultimate sacrifice, so that our nation, under the guidance of the divine, may experience a rebirth of freedom, and so that a government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall never perish from this earth.
